Introduction

According to the World Travel and Tourism Council (http://www.wttc.org), worldwide economic recovery has been reflected in a faster-than-expected rebound in international travel, particularly in Asian markets.  Nevertheless, expenditure on travel and tourism is still well down on its 2008 peak and the pace of recovery is likely to be slower than previously forecast. Although Jean-Claude Baumgarten, WTTC President and CEO, believes that “the longer-term prospects for travel and tourism remain positive”, the challenges facing the hospitality, tourism and events management industries are real and must be urgently addressed.  This major international research conference provides a platform for exploring the contemporary issues facing the hospitality, tourism and events management industries.
